Energy Management

What We Do

Energy Management’s mission is to provide cost effective, reliable, resilient, and resource-efficient utility services for MU. For more than a century, the MU Power Plant has delivered dependable electricity, heating, cooling, and water to the campus. These reliable utility services are a vital part of the unique physical infrastructure that supports the scholarly environment where our tightly interlocked missions of teaching, research, service, and economic development come together in service of all citizens.

On average, over 30% of MU’s energy comes from renewable sources—including biomass, Convergen Energy pellets, off-site wind power, and on-campus solar thermal and photovoltaic systems.

-6% per Sq Ft

Since 1990, MU’s energy conservation efforts have reduced energy use per square foot (BTU/GSF) by 6%, even as the campus has expanded by more than 48% in total building space.
