Behind the scenes, specialized teams within Energy Management play a vital role in keeping campus systems running safely, efficiently, and resource-efficient. From insulation and HVAC balancing to energy conservation, automation, and utility mapping, these services help optimize performance and support long-term campus operations.
Building Automation & Energy Conservation
Since 1990, MU has been committed to improving campus energy efficiency through smart building automation and energy-saving initiatives. Even with a 48% increase in total building space, these efforts have delivered over $143 million in cumulative energy reduction and energy savings.
Testing, Adjusting & Balancing
Since the early 1990’s, Energy Management has maintained a crew for Testing, Adjusting & Balancing or TAB. TAB ensures that HVAC systems perform efficiently and deliver proper airflow, temperature, and pressure throughout a building. This process is essential for occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and maintaining system performance as designed.
Insulation Services
The Insulation Services Group is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of thermal insulation systems throughout the campus. By preserving and enhancing insulation, the team helps minimize energy loss from heating and cooling systems, thereby improving overall operational efficiency.
GIS Mapping, Surveying & Locating
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Locating, and Surveying Group provides essential mapping, utility locating, and utility surveying services to support campus planning, construction, and maintenance. Their work ensures accurate underground utility data, supports safe excavation, and helps guide informed decision-making across campus projects.
