Jesse Hall Dome

Jesse Hall Dome at night with gold lights.

Lighting

Mizzou’s iconic Jesse Hall is the main administration building and one of the major symbols of the university.  Located at the south end of Francis Quadrangle, Jesse Hall’s dome stands nine stories above the ground and is taller than the building on which it is affixed.

Bright white lights are the standard lighting configuration for the dome.

The Jesse Hall dome was lit gold for the first time in October 1987 to commemorate the university’s 150th anniversary.

The dome is lit gold to commemorate signature weeks for our schools and colleges and/or to recognize significant milestones for members of our campus community. For these events, the dome is lit gold one evening to kick off signature weeks. Engineering Week is the exception, when the dome is lit green as part of a longstanding tradition. Examples include:

  • Arts & Science Week
  • Life Sciences Week
  • 1839 Reveal

In addition, it is lit gold the evening of the following athletic wins:

  • team national championships
  • home football game
  • SEC/Power 5 away football game
  • bowl game

There are two campus wide celebrations where the dome is lit gold for more than one evening:

  • Welcome Week, when it is lit gold the the first night of Mizzou Move In through Sunday evening of Tiger Walk.
  • Homecoming, when it is lit gold on Sunday evening to kick off Homecoming Week and returns to white lights on the Sunday after Homecoming.

The lights are turned off the night of MU Remembers, an annual event to recognize students, faculty and staff who have passed away the previous year.

The university will consider lighting the dome gold for one evening only for noteworthy and/or milestone campus accomplishments. However, we do not light the dome for awareness weeks or days. Please submit an email to mucffacilityops@missouri.edu with the following information:

  • Name
  • Contact information
  • Event or accomplishment description
  • Requested date of lighting

These requests will be considered by and require approval from the Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Facilities and the University President.

If you see the dome lit gold, check Facilities News to see the occasion we’re celebrating.

Tours

The university is unable to allow anyone in the dome besides those who maintain it. Fortunately, Campus Facilities partnered with Show Me Mizzou to provide a tour via photos and video.
