What We Do

Our Work

Mizzou Landscape Services is dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty and health of the University of Missouri campus throughout every season. From meticulous planting and pruning to snow removal and sustainable maintenance, our team works behind the scenes to create a welcoming and vibrant environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Mowing

Our skilled groundskeepers maintain Mizzou’s expansive lawns with regular mowing, keeping more than 48 acres of greenspace neat and inviting. These well-maintained areas provide ideal spots for outdoor classes, campus events, and relaxation.

Winter Weather Management

When the weather outside is frightful, Landscape Services is ready to clear vehicle and pedestrian routes on campus. From roads and parking lots to sidewalks and building entrances, the team works around the clock to keep campus safe and accessible.

Tending the Greenhouse

Our greenhouse is a hub of growth and care, where tropical plants and cuttings are nurtured before brightening the campus. Some of these plants come from “mother” plants that have been lovingly maintained for over 20 years, helping keep Mizzou’s gardens vibrant and full of life.

Planting

Planting at Mizzou is more than just putting flowers in the ground. Our Landscape Services staff applies their horticultural expertise to select and cultivate plants that thrive in our environment, creating beautiful and resilient garden spaces that reflect the character and spirit of the university.

Tours & Outreach

Whether for classes, clubs, or curious visitors, Mizzou’s Botanic Garden tours provide an up-close look at the campus’s unique flora. Our horticulture manager leads these personalized tours, which are available any time during the year for groups of six or more. Just fill out a Tour Request Form to book.

Debris Clean Up

Most grass clippings across campus are left to return their nutrients to the soil. In an effort to promote sustainability, things like tree debris (leaves and needles) are collected, composted, and used in seasonal plant beds. Storm response also plays a major role in debris cleanup, with crews working quickly to clear fallen branches and other hazards to keep campus safe and accessible.

Arboretum

The Mizzou Botanic Garden at the University of Missouri has achieved Level II Arboretum Accreditation from ArbNet, recognizing its commitment to tree conservation, education, and sustainable landscape management. This distinction places Mizzou among a select group of universities nationwide with both an accredited botanical garden and arboretum status, highlighting the dedication of its landscape services team and university support.
